Principal's Message - Mrs Meyrick
This fortnight staff and I have continued to build our English resources to support our teaching and learning. Teachers were surveyed about what additional resources they needed in their classrooms to support the teaching of English and these have been ordered. We look forward to these resources arriving over the next few weeks. We are also continuing to plan our English units for term 4 together, generating ideas for our big idea and linking to our motto ‘Passion & Purpose’. Our students have been actively involved in this during term 3 units and it is visibly creating a difference in their engagement and empowerment in class. We look forward to involving them in term 4 planning too.
Over the coming weeks, access to our school parking, drop off and pick up areas will change. Please keep an eye out in your emails for details. This will significantly assist our morning and afternoon routines as there will be various locations for you to park or collect from. We look forward to these opening for our community.
Prep Enrolments for 2024 are rolling in, with over one full class already enrolled. I ask our current families who have a child starting prep next year to quickly finalise these for us. This helps us plan for staffing and also prepare for our upcoming Koala Joeys transition program. You can use the online enrolment form, or visit the office for a paper copy. Remember to have your child’s birth certificate ready.
This week we said goodbye to Ms Swadling. Recruitment processes are underway for our new Deputy Principal and I will keep you all updated as this progresses. In the meantime, any matters that cannot be addressed with your child's class teacher can be referred to DP@ripleycentralss.eq.edu.au and Ms Yager or I will be able to assist.
Mrs Wuanita Meyrick| Principal
Our School Values and Expectations
Enrolments are still open for Prep to Year 6 to commence during 2023. Visit our website https://ripleycentralss.eq.edu.au/enrolments to complete the Enrolment Application Package.
Deputy Principal's Message - Ms Yager
We are thrilled to announce a monumental moment in our school's history! Over the past three weeks, a collaboration between our students and staff, under the expert guidance of Josh Arnold from Small Town Culture Productions, led to the creation of our very own school song.
On Thursday 10th August, we celebrated the grand premiere of our school song in our very first gathering in our brand-new hall. The excitement in the air was palpable, with students, staff, and parents coming together to witness the accomplishments of their collective efforts. This song, complete with acting, singing, and a heartfelt message, encapsulates the essence of our school community.
This film is not just a song; it's a reflection of our ‘Passion and Purpose,’ and our commitment to being EPIC Learners.
Ms Petra Yager | Deputy Principal
Deputy Principal's Message - Ms Swadling
I want to thank the amazing Ripley Central Community for such warm and wonderful messages for my departure on Wednesday. It was a day of mixed emotions, with tears and sadness that I said goodbye to an amazing bunch of students, who I think will thrive in this school environment and the amazing staff I have worked along side this year and last. But also excitement for my new venture at Victoria Point State School.
Thank you everyone again and I wish everyone an EPIC adventure!!!
Mrs Fiona Swadling | Deputy Principal

New Areas Now Open!
This week has been an exciting week as we opened the Canteen under cover area, the Lazy Space, our hall, a larger green space, Chill Hill and Koala Valley. We are so grateful for these additional areas and our students and staff have enjoyed exploring them this week. Our students are learning the expectations for each area and we are practicing each day how we transition to and from these areas.
Fuse Cup
On Wednesday 9th August, our esports team displayed exceptional skills and sportsmanship at the Ipswich Fuse Cup. Competing in Rocket League against students from Years 5 to 8, they not only played with dedication but also championed the Fuse Cup's values of integrity, strength, teamwork, and inclusion. Beyond the game, they cheered for their peers and other participating schools.
Both Ripley Central teams made it to the quarter finals before being knocked out in two very close matches. Thank you to Natalie for accompanying us and giving the students lots of positive support. Students will be invited to a special Mario Kart tournament at the end of the year with other schools in the Ipswich area.
The Fuse Cup, renowned for emphasising Digital Wellbeing, Inclusion, and Social Values, offered a valuable experience. Well done to Bailey, Sean, Koen, and Josephine for representing the school brilliantly!
A Special Visit from AFLW Superstar Kate Lutkins
We are elated to share that our Year 4 students recently had the unique opportunity to interact with one of the local stars of Australian football, Kate Lutkins. Representing the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Women's league, Kate's accolades speak for themselves. She shone as the "best player on the ground" during the 2021 AFL Women's Grand Final and has the title of being a three-time All Australian and a 2021 Premiership player.
Our students were captivated by Kate's tales from her illustrious sporting career. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they eagerly quizzed her, gathering insights for their current English project. As a part of their curriculum, our Year 4 students are penning sports-themed narratives that will soon grace our school’s 'Hall of Fame (Stories)'.
We believe that real-world interactions like these inspire our students to dream big and pursue their passions with determination. A big thank you to Kate Lutkins for taking the time to inspire the next generation!
Tour & Talk
Our next Tour and Talk is scheduled for 22nd August between 4pm-4.30pm. This is for families who are new to the area or moving to the area who would like a tour of our school, information and an opportunity to ask any questions. You can check your address at the Ed Map website https://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/ There is no need to RSVP, please just meet Mrs Meyrick out the front of administration at the commencement time.

What's Coming up in Prep?
Maths
Bring a Teddy Bear week
For our Maths unit and ‘time’ assessment task, we are asking all prep students to bring in a teddy bear for the week of Monday 21st to Friday 25th August. During this week, we will look at the days of the week, daily events, ordering and sequencing, counting and size comparisons. We ask the students bring in a teddy they are comfortable with leaving at school for 5 days. We strongly recommend the teddy that your child/s brings to school is not precious or sentimental teddy and is a maximum of 30cm tall. An alternative plush toy is acceptable if your child does not have a teddy. If your bear has a place to write your child’s name, please do so.
On Thursday 24th August the Prep students will have a 'Teddy Bear’s picnic' where Mrs Meyrick will joing us for some of their teddy bear fun. Could you please pack a bit extra in their lunchboxes for their teddy’s to eat on the day.
English
For our English unit, the students will be having a Ballapalooza event where the students will participate in a session of different Ball games and will write a recount diary entry about one or more of the ball games that they participated in the day before. “Guess what happened yesterday….”
On Wednesday 6th September, the students will be outside for additional time, so please ensure your child/s have sunscreen, a water bottle and a school hat is inside their bag for this event.
Book Week
It is nearly book week and we wanted to share with you some of the exciting events we have planned.
Tuesday 22nd August - Class tours of Curiosity Centre
Tuesday 22nd August - Reader's Cup Final
Friday 25th August - Book Character Dress Up, parade 9.15am in the hall with parents welcome.
Throughout the week, classrooms will decorate their doors for a school wide competition with the winners announced on assembly.
On Friday 25th August your child is invited to dress as their favourite book character (sun safe and normal school shoes please). There will be prizes for individual winners and the best class. Students can wear home made or purchased dress ups and all students are encouraged to participate.
Parents attending the assembly may also like to dress up!
Free Dress Day!
On Friday, 15th September (the last day of term 3) the Student Council are organising a free dress day where students are invited to wear blue or denim. Please bring a gold coin donation as we are saving for some extra sporting equipment like balls and goals. Please wear your normal school shoes. Please note, your school hat and your blue or denim clothes need to be SunSmart.
Normal learning will be occurring in class on this day and holidays do not start until 2.45pm so attendance is still required (unless you are sick). As a student council we thought we would make it fun for the last day of term by holding this themed free dress. We would love to see you join in.
Student Free Day
Our school will be closed on Friday 1st September for a Student Free Day (all Qld State Schools). Please make alternative arrangements for your children.
