2022 Edition 3 - 12/08/22
Principal's Message - Mrs Meyrick
This fortnight we have been planning enrolment processes, Prep transition, ordering technology and developing our English curriculum.
Our enrolment EOI are on the steady increase in the past fortnight, as more local families learn of our new school. Please talk with your neighbours and friends to continue to spread the word for us. We will have an Enrolment Management Plan (EMP) to ensure our school can cater for our immediate residential area now and into the future. Details about our EMP will be released to coincide with the state-wide release of catchment maps (normally in September).
We invite you to join us at our next Community Meeting to be held on Monday 12th September 4.30pm-6pm. At this upcoming community meeting we will be discussing enrolment processes, prep transition, BYOD (Bring your Own Device) options, SRS (School Resource Scheme - fees) and booklists. We look forward to sharing details, introducing you to our Leadership Team and seeking your input on the planning of the above agenda items. We will be hosting this meeting at the Community Hub at Ripley Valley State Secondary College.
Check below for some important information about Prep transition. We are currently planning to offer two groups a five-week transition program known as 'Koala Joeys'. A parent or carer is invited to attend and stay to assist and to learn more about our school. Koala Joeys launches on Tuesday 18th October so be sure to get your enrolment EOI in ASAP if you are planning to enrol at our school.

Deputy Principal's Message - Ms Yager
These past 2 weeks have seen our foundation leadership team busy exploring some exciting extra-curricular opportunities that we look forward to offering our future students.
Extra-curricular activities are those that are not a part of the normal school curriculum, including organised activities such as band, dance groups, swimming, and chess club. Participation in extra-curricular activities is linked to positive academic outcomes, such as students’ grades and educational aspirations, improved attendance, pro-social behaviours and more positive development generally.
Swimming:
Our school is committed to providing a high-quality water safety and swimming education program. Therefore, we have been in contact with a number of pools within the Ipswich region to explore swimming programs for students in Prep to Year 6. We are excited to share with you that we have applied for the QLD Water Safety and Swimming Grant to support the implementation of our swimming program in 2023. If successful, this grant will support our student by partially funding the cost of our swimming program.
Interschools Sport:
Our school is committed to fostering and developing a strong sporting culture. Ms. Swadling has been researching and making connections with our regional and district sports affiliations to see what sporting opportunities we can provide at our school in 2023.
Instrumental Music:
Research shows that music positively impacts a child’s academic performance, assists in developing social skills, and provides an outlet for creativity that is crucial to a child’s development. Our school is passionate about providing opportunities for our students and as such, I have been working closely with our regional music coordinator to explore what instrumental music programs our school can offer at the commencement of 2023. At this stage we are exploring band for Years 4-6 and Strings for Years 3-4.

Deputy Principal's Message - Ms Swadling
Ms Yager and I had some time last week to visit some ECECs, Early Childcare Education Centres, around the Ripley and surrounding areas. Along with Ms Swan from Ripley Valley State School, it is our combined priority to work with and alongside our ECECs to foster early relationships with families and childcare educators, and to assist with the smooth transition from a Childcare to a School setting. Ms Yager and I enjoyed reading a fun Koala story “Don’t call me Bear!” to the students at a couple of the centres and had a chat about what to expect at ‘big school’. Although our catchment area has yet to be released, we will continue to engage with the local ECEC’s and build these relationships for our new school. If you are unsure whether your child should be attending Prep next year, this is an easy way to work it out. If your child is born between July 2017 and June 2018 they start Prep in 2023. If they are born between July 2018 and June 2019 they start Kindy.
