Principal's Message - Mrs Meyrick
Your child’s semester 1 report card will be published and emailed to you soon. We do not provide paper copies, you will receive them to your email address.
Students in 6A, 2A and 1B will receive their report cards on Thursday in week 2 of next term (Thursday 18th July). This delay is due to current staffing and that Ms Yager, Mr Pearen and myself are working with these classes to teach, finish assessments, mark their assessments and complete their report cards. All other students will receive their report card on Thursday week 10 (Thursday 20th June).
If you child enrolled at our school on or after 9th May, they will not receive a report this semester. They will receive one in semester two.
A report card provides you with a snapshot of your child’s learning across the semester. If you have any questions about your child’s report card, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Mrs Wuanita Meyrick| Principal

Deputy Principal's Message - Mr Pearen
100 Days of GLOWing
On Friday 12 July, we will reach a significant milestone in our 2024 academic journey - the 100th day of learning at Ripley Central State School for 2024!
To celebrate this milestone students will be involved in a range of activities relating to 100 days of learning and games that children may have played 100 years ago.
To make this experience authentic for the students we would encourage them to dress in period clothing (clothing from 100 years ago), dress to look they are 100 years old, or clothing to celebrate being 100 days brighter. Please ensure that the clothing the children are wearing is sun safe and suitable for school. Normal school shoes help us be careful at playtime.
Letter Reversals – PLD Parent Information
Many young children reverse letters because they lack familiarity with the symbols. While this is a common occurrence in the Early Years, Foundation and early Year 1 when learning to write letters, ideally, reversals should not be present beyond seven years of age.
Verbal Cues and Starting Points
It is valuable to learn letters as movements rather than as visual shapes. This gives children a mechanism for remembering visually confusing letters. If the letters are taught effectively, with starting points and verbal cues, the motor memory of each letter will be paired with the phoneme and reversals will be minimised.
Tips for Dealing with Reversals
Remember, ongoing practice copying the letter is always preferable to continuing to practice it incorrectly.
- Ample practice is important to enable over-learning of new movements to occur.
- Choose one reversal per session to focus on, demonstrate first, then your child imitates.
- Verbal cues are crucial to reinforce correct letter formation.
- Use starting points and direction arrows.
- Use the non-dominant index finger (as well as the dominant index finger) to trace the direction of the letter.
- Teach ways to discriminate confused letters.
- Use a multi-sensory approach to teach the letters eg. Students write letters in the air with their pointer finger the large arm movements (try it with eyes open, then eyes closed).
- For children with persistent reversals, the use of a desk template is helpful as it provides a model of the particular letter(s) to copy as required.
Children who Continue to Reverse Letters
Students who continue to reverse letters may experience difficulty with positions-in-space. The confusion relates to the position the parts of the letter(s) occupy in relation to one another (ie. Is the circle to the left or the right of the line?) and the position the symbol occupies in the overall space of the paper (ie is the symbol formed above or below the writing line on the paper?)
The images below are the correct formation of some of the tricky letters learned so far this year along with the verbal cues for the letter formation. If your child is still writing their name in capital letters, this is the perfect starting point for correcting at home as well.
Mr Craig Pearen | Deputy Principal
